For the first time, a poem of mine has been chosen by Rattle for its Poets Respond feature. “Whalesong” just got emailed out to about 25,000 subscribers, it’s live on the site (along with a recording I did yesterday), and I’m going to join editor Tim Green tonight at 8PM ET to read the poem and talk about it briefly before Keetje Kuipers takes over as the featured poet on Rattlecast #284.

Here’s a link to the front page of Rattle, where “Whalesong” is currently residing. I’ll update this post and the link once the front page rotates and the poem has a separate URL.

EDIT: The direct link

Your poem on Rattle is one of the best I read in a long while. The way you weave in and out of your metaphors and connect them and the current events is brilliant. As is the perfect word choice of buttfuckery! 😜

I think my grandmother would have disapproved and yet been completely right, fond as she was of saying, “People who use language like that can’t think of anything better to say.” It’s true. I couldn’t.
